Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We launched Syner-g Communications in 1999 and immediately won the Chevrolet advertising account for the state of Alaska.
What is your primary product or service?
I find the velocity of change in advertising to be facinating and challenging. For most of the past several decades the 'go to' media choices were newspapers, radio, television and direct mail. Today that has changed markedly. Businesses must have a great website, mobile website, be engaged and engaging in multiple social media platforms. So, the strategic communication plan for business has to evaluate these platforms as they relate to their product/service and target audience.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
The montra of consultants and career advise for people is to find where your passion is and pursue it. For me this happened long before this life strategy was ever talked about. My degree is in fine arts and business. Yes, that is a bit odd but for me the world of advertising was perfect. Now in this business for a long time, and well over $300 million in media management, I am more facinated and motivated than ever.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Syner-g is a "full service" advertising agency but we are a virtual agency. Over the years I found that I could identify excellent and talented people who were independent like me. So rather than adding people to staff I have utilized the talent pool best suited to a project. This is a bit different from traditional ad agencies but has served my clients well.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
As a virtual ad agency I do not have a "location." I serve clients in many locations mostly by going to them.
Provide detailed directions to your location
This is simple. Call me at 916-740-7400 or on my mobile phone 916-765-7505, or email at steveg@syner-g.com.
What type of payments do you accept?
Check or if preferred, credit card.
Which areas do you service?
The western United States.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Privately held.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday to Friday 8:00 to 6:00. But, as a need arises we are working.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That campaign was great! To share a funny story some years ago Syner-g was the agency for KFC in Alaska. The franchisee had not run a targeted "Superbowl" campaign before so on my encouragement we did. On Monday I called the client (he operated multiple locations in Alaska) to see how it went. His opening comment, "Steve I don't want to that ever again!" A bit confused I asked what had happened and he said, "We have never run out of chicken before and we did in several locations by 1:00 PM." We worked together for many years until he sold all of his locations.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
1 Cor. 1:30. And because of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption. Paul - for me - summarized the Christian life in these few words.
